The dual emergency medicine (EM) and hospitalist (HM) physician provides comprehensive medical care to patients in both the emergency department (ED) and the hospital setting. This role requires experience in emergency medicine as well as inpatient care, allowing for seamless transitions and continuity of care. This is a great opportunity for someone who has practiced both EM and hospital medicine. The HM portion mainly consists of admissions, discharges, and rounding on patients.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school
- Board certification or eligibility in either emergency medicine (EM), internal medicine (IM) or family medicine (FM)
- Valid state medical license (Kentucky) or the ability to obtain one
- Experience in both emergency medicine and hospital medicine is preferred but may not be required for all positions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Availability to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Emergency Medicine:
- Provide timely and high-quality medical care to patients in the emergency department
- Department is low acuity and sees around 1 patient per hour
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute injuries or illnesses in an efficient manner
- Conduct thorough evaluations, perform physical examinations, and order appropriate diagnostic tests
- Stabilize critically ill or injured patients and coordinate their transfer, if necessary
Hospital Medicine:
- Round on patients
- Admissions
- Discharges
- Coordinate and communicate with specialists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in patient care
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters and progress in medical records
