Abilene Regional is a 231 bed, full service hospital built in 1984. A recent 26 million dollar expansion was completed in August of 2007. This included renovation and construction of out-patient receiving, 3 catch labs, 4 GI suites, fast track staging and recovery and two additional floors adding 42 beds, a new nursery of 16-21 beds and a NICU of 16 beds.
The Community The community population is approximately 115,000 and the hospital has a referral base which extends 90 miles. There are 3 universities and one junior college. Two independent school systems which are very highly rated. The hospital is located in the expanding area of the community with major highway access from all entry points. Abilene is also the location of Dyess Air Force Base. Having a workforce of 6000 military and civilian, they are a major contributor to the community. Abilene has a very strong cultural reputation and is consistently one of the top 10 tourist attractions in Texas.
